It's Probably Ashley

Hello~ Since I'm super bored and I've got a lot of time in my hands I've decided to blog about our recent trip to our hometown, Balayan, Batangas. We had a four-day vacation during the Holy Week last April and my mother decided it was the perfect time to visit my grandparents.

Plus they were in the process of tearing down our old house in place of a smaller, much more modern house for my grandparents to live in comfortably, and my mom wanted to see how things were going.

This post will probably be picture-heavy. Probably. Also incoherent. So brace yourselves. All pictures taken by my little sister, btw.

Just arrived. Tired as hell.
L-R: My cousin MJ, little sis April, and my mom.

The first thing we did when we got there was SLEEP! Honestly, last April I experienced one of the worst heat waves I could remember. Being stuck in a crowded car with no working AC in the middle of the day for four to five hours can really take everything out of you. It didn't help that the fucking car broke down TWICE in the middle of nowhere and with nobody to help you push the car because all the passengers were either teeny ladies or children below the age of twelve. Heh. But we survived. I was quite envious of my mom and April, who didn't ride on the car with us and instead commuted to Batangas. Lucky them~

The next day out aunt invited us to go visit a petting zoo located in a nearby beach. It was this cool, clean place that hosted a variety of small animals.

Le kyot chicks.

Turkeh. They got a bit startled when we came near then, lol.

So I was resting my hand on their cage when this little rascal tried to grab my hand and bite it!
Then he went around and guarded the place like, "Go away bitches. Grr. Grr."
I think it's so aggressive because of the behavior of the last guests. The owner said they were frequently played tricks on.

Their main attraction are the rabbits which they breed but don't sell yet because the population is still too small. Oddly enough I can't find the pictures of the rabbits that I took.

The next day we went to join the procession in the town church, done during the Holy Week. With the church as the starting point, the carved images of Mama Mary and Jesus would circle the town and then return to the church, which would roughly take about two to three hours. Some call it a form of  public penance where they'd ask for absolution by hurting themselves. Not making fun of it or anything, I just don't think it's necessary to hurt oneself in order to ask for forgiveness from the Big Man. When you're sorry, you're sorry. Anyway that's my opinion.

Although, the procession doesn't really give you anything more that sore feet from walking all evening.

Part of the church, plus Mama Mary's statue.
My parents got married here. ♥

Me and my Aunt holding our candles to be lit later.

The members of my family who joined the prusisyon.

The statue we were supposed to follow. We were at the back of the line.

Lookit how many people came!
That's my aunt and uncle in the foreground, left side.

Later that evening.

When you're just watching the crowd walk past you on the street, it's a beautiful sight to marvel at - hundreds of candles brightly lit, walking in unison under the clear night sky. Just lovely. ♥

Plus the statues are all beautifully lit as well.

When we got to the furthest part of the town there were a lot of twists and turns in the road. Since we were at the back of the line, shall we say, all we had to do was follow the crowd wherever they turned. That and we heavily relied on our grandmother who knew the route by heart so we just went ahead and walked.

Around the end of a certain narrow road my grandmother led us to a street where most of the other devotees proceeded to, while telling us that this is the last part of the journey and we'll be back in the church shortly thereafter.

But when we turned on the corner, this was what we saw:

Street was jam-packed with little stores. The whole place transformed in to a small marketplace overnight!

So where was the crowd?? Apparently they took a detour precisely because of that market-thing. We got lost along the way and ended up here. Haha!

In the end we decided to wrap up the night by praying to the nearest chapel in the area. My mother says that if you've got something that you needed divine help with, that was the place to go to. Provided that you believe hard enough.

Lit a few candles and said a few prayers.

We got home just in time for dinner~ What I love most about Balayan is their wet market, which offers a wide array of fresh seafood to choose from. I've had more than my fill of squid, fresh fish and my favorite seaweed! ♥ Food. :D

On our last free day we were invited once again by my aunt to spend the afternoon on the beach, something my siblings and I looked forward to. It was in Matabungkay, a known tourist spot in the area. The place is frequented by locals and tourists alike, and it's perfect for an afternoon picnic because you can rent a raft that comes with a grill and is built to resemble a hut so you can roast your lunch in the middle of the sea, or even take a nap while you're at it, lol.

Little sister and cousin exploring the raft.

Keisha and I, hiding in the shade. :))

Burying G3 in the sand, lol!

Me going, "Tangina so salty!" Obviously not used to the ocean. Or the sun.

Oh, and hey guys you better make sure to clean up after yourselves when you're in the beach. A little while after we dipped in the water we found a USED diaper floating happily along. YUCK! And we found some junk food wrappers, plastic bottles, and fruit peelings. Really, really not nice. Respect the ocean and its inhabitants, plz. How would you like it if other people threw trash in your house, eh??

Anyway, we spent the entire afternoon and much of the evening submerged in the water and eating like crazy :))))

Ending this post with pics of the glorious sunset at the beach ♥

So lovely~

That's it for my vacation. We went home first thing the next morning. And while I'm glad to be back to my wifi I'm very much thankful for the four-day retreat. Quite a relaxing experience, and I definitely can't wait to come back in June. Ja!

Bonus Achievement: Learn how to ride a bicycle by default.

Today marks a significant event in my life. With the help of professionals, I learned how to ride a motorcycle! I thought it'd be quite a struggle because I didn't know how to ride a bike, but I made it and I'm quite proud of myself right now. :D

Let's rewind a couple of weeks back.

Kenso saw an ad in a random website about a two-day Learn to Ride program sponsored by Suzuki Philippines, and he thought we should give it a go. We've actually been considering this for quite some time now and all we needed was the opportunity to learn - and here it is! We called in to book a schedule with them on the following weekend but the dates got moved. Finally, they called me a week ago to schedule training on the 12th and 13th, to which we agreed to attend. However come last Saturday morning they called to inform us that we're actually scheduled to train later that very day. Turns out they had some mix-up with the schedules and their customer care reps gave us the wrong dates. No biggie, though, so Kenso and I were in the LTO main branch in Diliman in less than two hours.

We started with a lecture on the main motorcycle parts, basic controls, safety gears and guidelines, and such. Then we had an exercise on the proper ways to secure the center and side stands when immobile. Then we proceeded to the proper way to bring your motorcycle back to an upright position when it falls to its side, which proved to be a challenge for teeny-tiny me. The instructors found it funny though, and they let it slide and said I could always call the boyfriend to lift the bike up whenever I fall down. :)))).

I can really do it, actually, but that is when I'm not panicking. Heh.

Anyway, the last lesson for Day 1 was to learn how to balance with the bike's engine off. They gave the ones who don't know how to ride bicycles yet (like me) more focus. And this is where I surprised myself: I know how to keep my balance! *throws confetti*

The instructors were surprised too, and as a reward they let Kenso and I go home early. I went home a little bruised and cramping in some places because I had been trying to lift a heavy bike back to its wheels the whole day, but I was quite pleased with how the lesson went overall.

We came back this morning for Day 2 of training and we started with a few warm-ups before we hopped on to the bikes - this time with the engine on. Being the nervous wreck that I am, I panicked at the slightest turns and I had to spend a few more minutes familiarizing myself with the roar of the engine and proper braking. After a short while I was able to join the others in roaming around the test track, and it was suuuch an experience. You can really see the appeal of the motorcycle when you're actually riding one.

We also had hands-on training on the traffic rules, then after that they taught us how to do roundabout turns and made us do this figure-of-eight-thing on the road. I fell like five times while trying to do the turns, but I didn't have problems doing the figure-of-eight. Kenso was watching me from afar because he always finishes ahead of me~ :D

The last test was to wind around pylons thrice then to return to the starting point without making a mistake, and those who couldn't were to be called back for re-training some other time. This made me so nervous because I've been struggling with the turns - I eventually got it right but I wasn't confident that I'd be able to turn properly. I think I was trembling when they called me in for the final test LOL. I couldn't be any happier when I got it right on one go! Really, really surprised myself even more and I let out a heavy sigh of relief because the worst is over. Hehe!

To cap off the last day of training the instructors gave us some last points to review - things like turning in a rotunda, the meanings of some common traffic signs, and the right of way which was quite eye-opening in and of itself. I mean, if everyone in the PH just had that discipline to keep the traffic rules and etiquette in mind there'd be significantly less accidents. Some countries don't even need traffic lights because the motorists are so disciplined. We should really take their example to heart.

Me, done with training, fucking tired and ready to go to bed.
We left the LTO main office feeling light and heavy at the same time. Heavy and aching from the whole-day workout, light with happiness and relief because we learned something new. So before I finally collapse on my bed, I want to say WEEKEND WELL SPENT! We did something productive and we get even more perks from it! Why? Because Suzuki PH will issue a certificate for us so when we want to apply for a driver's license we can just present the certificates to them and they can process the license without having to test us no more! So hassle-free! Of course we still have driving lessons to cover, but we'll get there. :D

Pictures to follow, probably. And now, I sleep. Ja!
EDIT: Some pics added, lol. (01052017)

Yes, yes. I know I promised another blogpost last month, but my supreme laziness got the better of me. So deal with it :D Besiiiiides, I only have one reader (and that's me). /heh. Anyway, I left off with some phrase saying Kenso and I are leaving for Splash Island that coming week and this post is about that.

FYI, Splash Island is a local water-themed park/resort located in Laguna, Philippines. To get there, one must either own a car or be brave enough to face the long commute under the heat amid the smog. It used to be really, really popular especially among the tourists during summer and the holidays. It still is, actually, but not like it used to since the appearance of more vacation spots, some of which are more accessible and somehow cheaper.

I've never set foot in Splash Island before, and I remember my 10-year-old self thinking that it was a distant dream. Or something. While I didn't mind (because who cares?), I didn't stop wondering what kind of an experience it'd be. And I'd almost totally forgotten the whole thing anyway, as I was busy growing up.

Then one day Kenso told me about a featured promo in a website that offers deals (ooh, hint!) and ads for cheap, and when I saw that it was an all-day pass to Splash Island I absentmindedly mentioned I've never been there before. To be clear, I only meant for that comment to voice out my hesitation, since I worried about the commute and all that. Growing up fucks things up, yeah. It does that to you. But I guess Kenso took it the other way and bought two vouchers for us and planned the trip for the weekend, which was incredibly sweet~

Come that weekend we found ourselves wandering around in the heat in Alabang waiting for a bus to Laguna. But we cool, totally. LOL. The prospect of water-sliding and lounging around in a pool was enough for both of us to not complain. :D

Aaaaand touchdown! We didn't get to take the traditional picture of posing in front of the venue's large welcome sign. We just went straight in, paid for the lockers, and dove right into the pools. This was one of the first pics we actually took when the excitement finally washed over us LOL.

Lookit. I be so happy.

Also FYI, you're not allowed to bring food from the outside. The guards will search your bags if you're hiding any snacks and will ask you to either leave the snacks at the gate or finish them before you enter the park.

Most of the time we just hung out here because there was so much people everywhere.

Hanging out in the river. It was quite relaxing, actually, despite needing to fight over a floater. Or are they called rafts? I don't know.

We tried out the different attractions too, but some of them were closed for clean up and the others were just clogged too full to the brim with vacationers so we generally avoided those. Despite that we had a ton of laughter, and we knew we'd be coming home with stories to tell.

We went home just as the park was closing, and while mulling around with the crowd I mused at the light, elated feeling that I had. A kind of satisfied, Ican'tbelieveIjumpedoffa20footslide, Ihadthebesttimeever, kind of emotion. And it was awesome.

Thanks for reading my experience, and I hope you have a fun summer! Until next blog post!

Just to chronicle what I've been up to for the past few months since my absence. Who reads this blog anyway? :))

January
For some reason I feel like I've had a huge hangover from December, and I couldn't remember anything that happened in January. I relied on Facebook updates, photo uploads and tags just to help me recall what I've done. Wasn't very helpful - I just ended up with a bunch of photos I don't remember taking, with the dates all mixed up. LOL. So here's a few I could actually recall. I think.

Photos taken by my sister Keisha.
For my sister's First Communion, Kenso and I were chosen as proxies for her godparents who couldn't come that day. We went to eat lunch in a resto near the school after that, then Kenso and I left to a nearby mall to buy a few necessities. I think it was Friday the 13th that day, I dunno.

Virtual date because we're cheap and broke.
We also started playing pRO again! I've never actually experienced playing in the official servers, as I've only tried my hand at private servers with super high rates (because I like to cheat liek that). That and the fact that pRO used to charge credits so you could play (they don't anymore), and I was just a poor high school kid that time LOL. Private  servers were free to play. So I really struggled with the normal rates and the slow leveling process, but it was still fun because I was playing with my friends. I was always the Assassin. It's the only job I could connect to (wtf). Kenso likes being a Knight, though.

February
I remember a lot more of what happened here. Maybe it's because February was just a few weeks ago. And that I was quite busy with February.

Every month always starts with Kenso and me celebrating our monthsary. ♥ I met up with him after his work shift and we ate dinner at a nearby mall.

And now for my first cosplay and photoshoot for 2012:

/heh

Months (even years) before this, I planned to cosplay an Assassin Cross, a job from RO, since I have always, always loved that job. Thing is I couldn't because it was too revealing for me, and I couldn't find a seamstress at that time (I was sixteen, so it was roughly six or 7 years since I planned cosplaying my character. Not many were open to costume-making that time). But Yuu's cosplay inspired me to finally do it! She's much, much, muuuuch, MUCH better than me, x100000! But it was still a great feeling to finally do one of my dream cosplays! I'll only post some outtakes, I don't have all of the pics yet XD All cosplay pics here belong to Kuya Art.

Arch Bishop Martin and Assassin Cross Kenso.

Assassin Cross Ashley + Arch Bishop Madie
I organized this photoshoot with my very good friend, Madie.

The party. L-R: Martin, Kenso, me, Madie.
We planned this to be a sort of "couple" shoot, with two representatives per job - 1 male and 1 female. I invited two others but they couldn't make it because of prior engagements. Oh well, maybe next shoot~

Kenso already had an Assassin Cross costume from waaaaay way back, and we just revamped it to be more accurate ^^ Mine needs a little more adjustment, but I'm generally happy with the way it turned out.

We actually had to rush this a little bit, since the purpose for the "theme" was meant for the upcoming Valentine's day. I wanted a cheesy-ISH cosplay shoot with my partner, and we thought this would have been really cool. And it was, in a way.

Come Valentine's day I was so busy I didn't even have the time to edit and upload the photos in time for the occasion. I wouldn't say it was all wasted though, because the time spent with my friends was priceless. ♥

So we just celebrated with a simple home-cooked meal and some wine. Cozy and relaxing~

Pesto love.

Mid-February came with a really big celebration, too.

They're adorable. :D
My best friend since college, Justine, got married! It came as a surprise when she told me about it a few months back, and I couldn't be any happier. You deserve the loving husband and wonderful family, love. She's really lucky to have met a great guy like Vic. ♥

Me and Jansen at the wedding.
The theme was white, so I had to run around the metro with my mom to find a white casual dress for the wedding. LOL. Found the perfect one in the nick of time!

It was also around this time when I started pondering about a change I used to be so afraid of. I started growing my hair long since high school freshman year, and I've avoided getting my hair cut above my collar bone ever since. I strove to maintain a long 'do, and I even spent a few more bucks than usual so I could keep it healthy. The younger me always hid beneath my locks, and I've always regarded my hair as my security blanket ever since I could remember.

But everyone needs change, right? And I grew tedious of the same look I sport every day. I decided to try something different this time, and my friends (especially Justine) and my beloved Kenso encouraged me to crawl out of my shell.

March
March 1st, El Pollo Loco.

I didn't crawl, I burst through it. LOL. It's been a really good refreshing change, don't you think? Yeah. I'm so glad it came out great, and not horrible like I imagined. LOL.

At PCC '12, in Robinson's Ermita.

Now the two of us have work and school to keep us busy, but it's still good. I had fun so far, and I can't wait for more! Next week Kenso and I are going out to Splash Island, and I'll blog all about it afterwards. Ja!

Hiiii.

Three months after we broke into the new year, I only decided to update this now. And it' always most appropriate to update your personal blog in a computer shop beside your school. :))

Anyway, this is just a "Just-So-You-Know-I'm-Still-Alive" post. I'll follow up with a longer post (with pictures, of course) so I can document what happened in the last three months.

Ja~
